WIN2026. Toward Safe Discharge
At the IWA Water in Industry 2026 Conference (WIN2026, Delft, the Netherlands), an international team presented a study on aquaculture wastewater treatment.

In this study, an international research team from UFRGS, Brazil, and SARI CAS, China, demonstrated the potential of a combined treatment approach for aquaculture wastewater.
During the first stage, wastewater underwent membrane concentration, achieving up to 99% retention of antibiotics. In the second stage, the membrane-treated concentrate was subjected to electrochemical oxidation. Anodic oxidation enables the mineralization of residual antibiotics in the highly saline concentrate, thereby completing the treatment cycle and enabling safe discharge while reducing the risks associated with the spread of antibiotic resistance.
